Riga vous gave ? Vilnius ne vous tente pas plus qu’une prison lituanienne ? Filez à Tallinn ! La plus méconnue des triplées baltes a beau être située tout au nord de l’Europe, elle tient plus d’Ibiza et de Carcassonne que de Mourmansk. Inscrite au Patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco, la capitale estonienne est surtout connue pour sa vieille ville, entourée d’un mur médiéval parfaitement préservé. Les toitures de tuile rouge et les clochers effilés du centre historique, à deux heures de ferry d’Helsinki, attirent chaque week-end des hordes de Scandinaves. Les Français, eux, s’y font rares. Ils ne savent pas ce qu’ils perdent.
Superbe centre médiéval
Pour avoir un aperçu de la ville, mieux vaut commencer son tour par Toompea, la ville haute. Depuis les terrasses panoramiques aménagées dans le quartier, vous embrasserez toute l’histoire de Tallinn : d’un côté, le superbe centre médiéval, tout près du port, toujours hyperactif ; de l’autre, la partie soviétique, un peu grise et les nouveaux quartiers d’affaires qui poussent comme des champignons dans ce pays en plein boom.
Après avoir admiré la cathédrale orthodoxe Alexandre-Nevski, descendez dans la ville basse à la découverte de son joyau, l’ancienne mairie, construite au début du XVe siècle. Tout autour, les vieilles demeures abritent des restos et des cafés très chic. Remontez ensuite la rue Pikk ou rue Longue, sans doute la plus jolie de la ville. Au n° 17, admirez la magnifique Grande guilde, qui abrite le musée d’Histoire de l’Estonie. Et s’il vous reste un peu de temps, allez faire un tour au musée d’art Kumu, un beau condensé de l’art estonien, dans un écrin dessiné par un Finlandais. Tout un symbole.

The capital of the Estonia is really a spectacular place. I have recently visited there with my family & friends. The red tile roofs and steeples of the historic center tapering to two hours by ferry from Helsinki attract each weekend hordes of Scandinavians. This is an awe full place really!
