Hot Savoie : Chamonix ne laisse pas de glace
Si Chamonix évoque plus pour vous les gâteaux à l’orange que les pistes enneigées, cet itinéraire est fait pour vous. On ne vous demandera ici ni efforts, ni tenue de dragueur sur télésiège. Commencez par la visite du Musée alpin, installé dans l’ancien Chamonix Palace construit au début du siècle dernier. Pas d’écrans tactiles interactifs, pas de vitrine high-tech, mais de grandes salles un peu solennelles, avec de nombreuses gravures, objets, et souvenirs pour évoquer l’histoire du massif du Mont-Blanc.
Marcher dans une grotte
Gageons que cela vous aura donné envie de sommets. On vous a trouvé une solution pas trop fatigante avec l’ascension de la mer de Glace, le plus grand glacier français, par le train à crémaillère du Montenvers. A deux pas de la gare d’arrivée, au 1er étage du Grand Hôtel du Montenvers (construit en 1880), un musée évoque le site, la construction du train, et ses visiteurs illustres : Goethe, Byron, Hugo... Juste après, d’anciennes écuries accueillent le musée de la Faune alpine, qui présente de nombreuses espèces d’animaux naturalisés, qu’on observe de part et d’autre de la passerelle.
Après cet intermède intello, on vogue vers la Mer de Glace en télécabine. Un paysage superbe, impressionnant, même si le glacier se rétracte et qu’il y a beaucoup de monde. Le spectacle le plus fascinant se situe de toute façon au cœur de la glace. Chaque année, une grotte est taillée dans le glacier, un peu plus profondément que la précédente, et il faut désormais 400 marches après la descente du téléphérique pour y accéder. Juste assez éprouvant pour s’enfiler une bonne raclette sans trop de remords.

Hôtel des Crêtes blanches Etablissement à l’architecture typique du début du XXe siècle avec jolie terrasse et véranda à l’ancienne dans la courette. Déco différente dans les chambres, qui ont toutes vue sur le Mont-Blanc.

Le Bistrot des Sports Une adresse indissociable de l’histoire de Chamonix. Un bistrot à l’ancienne bien vivant, du p’tit noir le matin au comptoir en bois, en passant par les soirées-concerts. On y mange simple, mais bon. Wi-fi. Menus à 13,50 € (le midi en sem.), puis 18-22 €.

Pour boire un verre, on vous conseille la Microbrasserie de Chamonix, à deux pas de la gare, au 365, route du Bouchet. Déco de bric et de broc, ambiance débridée et bonne bière brassée sur place. Egalement en plein centre, une institution locale, façon pub, le Choucas (208, rue du Docteur-Paccard).

Chamonix est située dans la partie nord-ouest des Alpes, à seulement 15 km de la frontière suisse via le Col des Montets et à 15 km de l'Italie par le tunnel du Mont-Blanc. La frontière naturelle, où ces trois pays convergent, se trouve à 3820 mètres sur le sommet du Mont Dolent.
